Film Screening: The Paradox of Seabrook Farms

May 2 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT
Free

“The Paradox of Seabrook Farms: Shattered Dreams, Restored Hopes”

Saturday, May 2nd at 2pm    JAA-NY  49 W. 45th St. NYC,  5th floor.

Co-sponsored by JAA NY, JACL-NY, and ZAJA NYC.

Due to popular demand, we are hosting a free encore screening of “Paradox of Seabrook Farms”, the moving and complex story of Seabrook Farms in New Jersey where 2,500 Japanese Americans worked and settled after being released from WW2 Incarceration Camps. It is a heartening story of immigrants and migrant workers overcoming hardship and exploitation, which continues to this present day.

Please join us for a post screening Q&A with accomplished film director Helga Merits and our very special guest Mas Nakawatase who is featured in the film. Mas was born in the Poston Incarceration Camp before his family moved to Seabrook Farms where they worked and lived during the JA Resettlement period. He has become a life-long activist in protecting the rights of all marginalized communities to this day. The discussion will be moderated by George Hirose, (VP of JAA-NY, Acting President of JACL-NY & Steering Committee member of ZAJA-NYC). Light food and reception will follow!

Please RSVP to george.hirose@gmail.com by April 30 with ‘RSVP Seabrook’ in the subject line.
