A number of influential Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) individuals and organizations have endorsed Council Member Julie Won in her bid for New York’s 7th Congressional District.

Won, who announced a campaign to succeed the outgoing U.S. Rep. Nydia Velázquez in February, is running against Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Assembly Member Claire Valdez for the soon-to-be-vacant seat.

Won announced a slate of endorsements last week as part of AAPI Month, with New Jersey Senator Andy Kim, U.S. Rep. Marilyn Strickland (D-Washington), U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda (D-Hawaii), U.S. Rep. Dave Min (D-California) and U.S. Rep. Derek Tran (D-California) all backing Won’s bid for Congress.

A number of AAPI PACs have also backed Won’s campaign, including the Asian American Action Fund, and the Korean Americans for Organizing Fund.

State Sen. John Liu and Assembly Member Ron Kim had also endorsed Won when she officially launched her campaign at the beginning of March.
