We are excited to share that Vietnamese Boat People (VBP) is partnering with Think!Chinatown to help preserve stories of migration from Vietnam and their connections to Manhattan’s Chinatown.

After hosting our traveling exhibition Our Journeys last year, this collaboration between Think!Chinatown and VBP are continuing the collaboration by inviting community members to share stories of fleeing Vietnam after the Vietnam War and the connections they formed in Manhattan’s Chinatown. This may include individuals who lived through this experience themselves, as well as those who have heard these stories from family members or loved ones..

Participants are invited to bring family, friends, or neighbors to record a 40-minute oral history interview on one of the following dates:
• March 29 – Interviews available in English and Chinese
• April 18 – Interviews available in English, Chinese, and Vietnamese

All community recordings will be archived on VBP’s digital Journeys Map to help build a Manhattan Chinatown collection that highlights the intersecting migration histories of Vietnamese and Chinese diaspora communities connected to Chinatown.

Each storyteller will also receive a raw copy of their recording as a keepsake.
