Screening/Panel of ABACUS: Small Enough to Jail
September 24, 2024 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT
Free

The Center on Asian Americans and the Law presents ABACUS: Small Enough to Jail—a documentary about the saga of the Sung family, owners of Abacus Federal Savings Bank in Chinatown, New York.
Abacus became the only U.S. bank to face criminal charges after the 2008 financial crisis. The indictment and subsequent trial forced the Sung family to defend themselves and their bank’s legacy in the Chinatown community over the course of a five-year legal battle.
The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2018.
After the screening, members of the Sung family will join us for a panel discussion and reception.
