What’s Sake Day?
Sake Day, or “Nihonshu no Hi”, is celebrated annually on October 1st in Japan. It marks the official start of the sake brewing season — a time when rice is freshly harvested and the ideal brewing conditions begin.
Established 1978 by Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association (JSS), Sake Day honors centuries of traditional craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and the deep connection between sake and Japanese life. It’s more than just a drink — it’s a symbol of community, celebration, and artistry.
