Through the lens of a large-format camera, Lum traces the architectural history of Chinatowns in major cities like Toronto, San Francisco, and Montreal. His work investigates how built environments shape and express “Chinese” identity.

His colorful photographs offer a poignant visual record, spotlighting both historical and modern-day cultural landmarks—small family-owned businesses, iconic Chinese restaurants and vital community organizations—that define these neighborhoods.
