Asia Society presents Kyoko Kagawa Rarities, a series of five remarkable films starring the beloved Japanese actress, in partnership with Anthology Film Archives, from August 13-16, 2026.

Under the weight of debts passed on by his father, salaryman Takashi (Hidetoshi Nishijima) returns to his grandfather’s property with the idea of selling the land. Instead, he finds himself inhabiting the space with a cohort (Ryo Kase, Azusa Takehana) at a crossroads in their lives. Together, and with the elders at the neighborhood bar (Kagawa, Sansei Shiomi), shared space and time leads to breakthroughs in character.

The debut feature of Chihiro Ikeda, a student (and later collaborator) of Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Tokyo Rendezvous unites new talent with veterans of the industry. Amidst glowing 16mm frames shot by the great Masaki Tamura (Lady Snowblood, Eureka), we feel the living charge of humble stardom across generations. —Joseph Eusebio
