We are pleased to invite you to attend the second Committee of 100 Conversations – “Recollections, Pioneers and Heroes” event. This new program feature interviews of Chinese Americans who have contributed to the success of America through their pioneering efforts, heroic achievements, or recollections of important events. Each interview will start feature a live broadcast. The video and podcast recording of the interview will be made available as part of a library of the interviews.

Chinese Americans have contributed greatly to advance the success of this country in many walks of life – science, the arts, agriculture, philanthropy, political leadership, architecture, business, and more.

Our second Committee of 100 Conversations event will feature Professor Gordon Chang, Professor of History at Stanford University, who will talk about “The History of Asian American Contributions to America” and his own personal journey as a scholar in his field.

Asian Americans have had a long history of contributing to the success of the United States, whether it is the building of the Trans-Continental Railway to major contributions in the a wide variety of fields such as in law, science, health care, music, visual arts, drama, teaching and research, to list just a few.

Professor Chang will provide a crucial historical perspective on the urgent issues facing Asian Americans in a time of rising international tensions and anti-Asian sentiments at home. In addition, he will reflect on his scholarly trajectory and his journey into Asian American studies as a field of study.

He will also comment on his most recent book, “War, Race and Culture – Journeys in Trans-Pacific and Asian American Histories”, which is a career-spanning anthology of significant essays that prompt conversations across his broad-ranging research interests and personal history, from trans-Pacific history and Asian American history to art history

Peter Young, Chair of the Initiative and a Committee of 100 Member, will be the moderator. The fireside chat will be held on June 26, 2025 from 3:00 pm Eastern Time to 3:45 pm Eastern Time. Upcoming Committee of 100 Conversations – Recollections, Pioneers and Heroes

June 11, 2025 at 6 pm ET – Henry Tang and Oscar Tang will talk about “The Founding of the Committee of 100”. As two of the founders of the Committee of 100, they will talk about the founding of the organization, their own personal histories, the impact that the organization has had over the years, and the important role that the Committee of 100 hopes to continue to have far into the future.

July 10, 2025 at 6 pm ET – David Ho, Innovative AIDS research scientist;

Founding Scientific Director, Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center; his elegant studies unraveled the dynamic nature of HIV replication in vivo and revolutionized our basic understanding of this horrific disease. This knowledge led him to champion combination antiretroviral therapy that resulted in unprecedented control of HIV in patients.

July 29, 2025 at 6 pm ET – Linda Tsao Yang, Governance Pioneer, Former U.S. Ambassador and the first woman and the first minority to represent the United States on the board of a multilateral financial institution, she will talk about her pioneering efforts and the challenges of good governance.

GORDON H. CHANG is the Olive H. Palmer Professor in Humanities and Professor of History at Stanford University. He is a leading academic scholar on the topic of the history of Asian Americans and their contributions and challenges in the United States. His latest book was published in May of 2025, “War, Race and Culture – Journeys in Trans-Pacific and Asian American Histories”. He is the author of “Ghosts of Gold Mountain: The Epic Story of the Chinese Who Built the Transcontinental Railroad (2019)”, “Fateful Ties: A History of America’s Preoccupation with China (2015)”, and coeditor of “The Chinese and the Iron Road: Building the Transcontinental Railroad (Stanford, 2019)”, among many other books. He has been a fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation and the American Council of Learned Societies and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2024.

Peter Young is CEO of Young & Partners, a boutique investment banking firm focused on the life science and chemical industries. He manages the firm and is actively involved in client transactions and financings. Under his leadership, Young & Partners has established and maintained its position as a highly regarded firm serving the corporate strategy, M&A, restructuring and financing needs of clients worldwide. He was previously head of industry groups at Salomon Brothers, Schroders and Lehman Brothers, a senior private equity executive with J.H. Whitney & Co. and a senior member of Bain & Co., the corporate strategy firm.

Mr. Young received a BA in Economics from Yale, an MS in Accounting from NYU, and MBA from Harvard Business School where he graduated with Distinction as a Baker Scholar. He is a CPA and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. He serves on a number of boards of directors, both corporate and non-profit and is a board member of Société de Chimie Industrielle, a leading life science and chemical industry non-profit organization and on the Editorial Advisory Board of Pharmaceutical Executive.
