We are pleased to invite you to attend our 15th Committee of 100 Conversations – “Recollections, Pioneers and Heroes” event on September 3, 2026 that will feature Hao Jiang Tian, a world renown opera singer and the founder and artistic director of iSing!, which for 15 years has trained Western and Chinese singers for careers in opera. He is also a Committee of 100 member.

Hao Jiang Tian, internationally renowned bass, has sung more than 1,400 performances of 50 operatic roles worldwide. The only Chinese singer to have appeared at the Metropolitan Opera for 20 seasons in 26 different operas, Tian has been highly acclaimed for his performances in leading bass roles at major opera houses around the world.

Tian is also the founder and Artistic Director of the iSING! International Young Artists Festival. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, iSING!‘s mission is to train Western singers to perform in Chinese while nurturing outstanding young Chinese singers for careers on the world’s leading opera stages.

Chinese Americans have contributed greatly to advance the success of this country in many walks of life – science, the arts, agriculture, philanthropy, political leadership, architecture, business, and more.

The Committee of 100 Conversations Initiative features interviews of Chinese Americans who have contributed to the success of America through their pioneering efforts, heroic achievements, or recollections of important events. Each interview will start with a live broadcast and the video recording will be available on the Committee of 100 website as part of a library of the interviews.

Committee of 100’s purpose is to provide leadership and act as a constructive force in promoting the full participation of all Chinese Americans in American society and acting as a public policy resource for the Chinese-American community; and advancing constructive dialogue and relationships between the peoples and leaders of the United States and Greater China.

Peter Young, Chair of the Conversations Initiative and a Committee of 100 Member, will be the moderator. Hao Jiang Tian

World renown opera singer

Founder and Artistic Director of iSing!

Hao Jiang Tian, internationally renowned bass born in Beijing, has sung more than 1,400 performances of 50 operatic roles worldwide. The only Chinese singer to have appeared at the Metropolitan Opera for 20 seasons in 26 different operas, Tian has been highly acclaimed for his performances in leading bass roles at major opera houses around the world, including the Berlin State Opera, Teatro Comunale in Florence, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the Arena di Verona, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Canadian Opera Company, Washington National Opera, and opera houses in France, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Chile, Russia, Japan, and all of China’s major opera houses.

Tian has collaborated with opera legends Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo in more than ten operas and over one hundred performances. In addition, Tian performed leading roles in the world premieres of modern Chinese operas including Tan Dun’s The First Emperor at the Metropolitan Opera, Stewart Wallace’s The Bonesetter’s Daughter based on Amy Tan’s novel at San Francisco Opera, Guo Wenjing’s Poet Li Bai at Central City Opera, Steve Hui’s The Memory Palace of Matteo Ricci in Hong Kong, Tang Jianping’s Voyage to the East in Tokyo, Lei Lei’s The Orphan of Zhao at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Enjott Schneider’s Marco Polo at the Guangzhou Grand Theatre, and Chien Nan-chang’s Le Peintre at the National Theater in Taipei.

His autobiography, Along the Roaring River: My Wild Ride from Mao to the Met, was published by Wiley & Sons as a Lincoln Center Book. His Chinese-language book, Turandot at the Arena, was published by SDX Joint Publishing Company.

Tian is the founder and Artistic Director of the iSING! International Young Artists Festival. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, iSING!‘s mission is to train Western singers to perform in Chinese while nurturing outstanding young Chinese singers for careers on the world’s leading opera stages. This has remained one of the Festival’s central goals since its founding. Over the past fifteen years, nearly 400 young singers from 38 countries—including approximately 300 from the United States and China—have participated in this nonprofit program. iSING! has presented more than 60 concerts and opera performances in over 30 cities across the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and China. Today, dozens of iSING! alumni perform leading roles at many of the world’s foremost opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Berlin State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, San Francisco Opera, the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.

In January 2023, the iSING! International Young Artists Festival presented the American premiere of Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems with the world-renowned Philadelphia Orchestra at Lincoln Center. The project was presented again with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing in 2024 and 2025. The performances featured outstanding young singers from ten countries performing, in Chinese, Tang Dynasty poetry written more than a thousand years ago. The music was specially commissioned from six composers representing six different countries. Hao Jiang Tian conceived the project and serves as its producer and stage director.

His honors include the Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Denver (2014), the Ellis Island Medal of Honor (2015), the Carnegie Mellon Award (2011), and an Honorary Doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music (2021).

Peter Young is CEO of Young & Partners, a boutique corporate strategy and investment banking firm focused on the life science and chemical industries. He manages the firm and is actively involved in client transactions and financings. Under his leadership, Young & Partners has established and maintained its position as a highly regarded firm serving the corporate strategy, M&A, restructuring and financing needs of clients worldwide. He was previously head of industry groups at Salomon Brothers, Schroders and Lehman Brothers, a senior private equity executive with J.H. Whitney & Co. and a senior member of Bain & Co., the corporate strategy firm.

Mr. Young received a BA in Economics from Yale, an MS in Accounting from NYU, and MBA from Harvard Business School where he graduated with Distinction as a Baker Scholar. He is a CPA and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. He serves on a number of boards of directors, both corporate and non-profit and is President of Société de Chimie Industrielle, the 108 year old leading life science and chemical industry non-profit organization and on the Editorial Advisory Board of Pharmaceutical Executive.
