A Holistic Understanding of Our Nervous Systems Under Systemic Oppression

A Holistic Understanding of Our Nervous Systems Under Systemic Oppression
If we are awake to the world around us, it’s clear that the conditions we live under are intense. With interlocking systems of oppression bearing down on us from multiple sides, it’s impossible not to feel the effects on our bodies. How do we remain in the struggle for collective liberation without burning out?
This workshop is for anyone who wants to gain a deeper and more holistic understanding of the relationships between their own nervous system, the collective nervous system, and the systems of oppression we live in.
There will be a short presentation followed by guided reflection and collective resourcing. All donations for this workshop will go to Middle East Children’s Alliance @mecaforpeace
Our instructor, Melissa Anran Fan (she/they) is an expressive arts and somatics practitioner, community organizer, writer, and cultural worker living in service of collective liberation. She holds a MA in Counseling Psychology and has additional training in somatic therapy, ecotherapy, and integrative change work.
Her work is deeply influenced by Buddhism, abolition, revolutionary mothering, and the earth. On a lifelong path of decolonization and living in integrity, some of her current dreams involve imagining co-housing cooperatives, reconnecting with her Chinese ancestry, and building radical parenting communities. She lives in unceded Ohlone land in the East Bay of California and is a mama to twins.
