Japanese Children’s Society, Inc.
New York Ikuei Gakuen began in 1979 as a "Japanese playgroup" established in Manhattan, New York by the late Miyoko Niwa, the first director. In 1980, it became a non-profit organization in the United States, Japanese Children's Society, Inc., and changed its Japanese name to "Good Children's School". Later, with the support of the Tanaka Ikueikai, the school moved to its current school building in Inglewood Cliffs, New Jersey in 1989, and was renamed "New York Ikuei Gakuen" and continues to this day. It is the only full-time integrated kindergarten educational institution (3 years old ~ 6th grade) on the East Coast. In 2014, we celebrated our 35th anniversary, and over the past 35 years, more than 3,000 former full-time students have studied in Japan and other countries based on their experience at the school.
