2025 Asian American Exit Poll—the largest and longest running one in the US! In partnership with the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), the Asian American Federation (AAF) has released our analysis of Asian American voter attitudes and priorities in the 2025 New York City general election.
Here’s what we learned from 1,268 voters surveyed on November 4:
- 49.1% of Asian voters voted for Zohran Mamdani and 33.8% voted for Andrew Cuomo
- 50.2% stated the economy, including jobs, was their top priority this election
- 58.5% disapproved of President Trump’s approach to immigration policy
- 19% of young Asian voters (aged 18-29) voted for the first time

It’s clear that affordability was on the ballot this year. From AAF’s data, we know that a majority of Asian renters are spending at least a third of their paychecks on housing and roughly 1 in 4 Asian New Yorkers live in or near poverty. These exit polls show that when politicians speak directly to issues that impact our communities and make us feel heard in our own languages and cultures, Asian American voters can mobilize to make history.
