From flaky crust and soft snowskin mooncakes to flavorful coconut and lotus fillings\, taste and learn about the different styles of Cantonese\, South East Asian\, and Fujianese style mooncakes made by artisans from our neighborhood\, Manhattan’s Chinatown. New this year: we’re excited to offer a vegan mooncake option from a local shop! We’ll also taste regional specific loose-leaf teas from our neighbors @annaye.tea\, @grandteaimports\, andJook Sing Pandathat complement each type of mooncake. \nBetween sips of fragrant tea and bites of rich mooncake we invite you to try your hand at serving tea in the traditional gongfu style\, expand your tea-tasting palate and make new friends over afternoon tea! DESCRIPTION:Join Think!Chinatown for a guided deep-dive foodways workshop on artisanal tofu shops (Tofu 舖 pù/pou*) in Chinatown. Browse\, taste\, and learn about each tofu pou’s specialties and offerings\, and what makes a tofu pou unique to Manhattan Chinatown (and why Think!Chinatown designated “Artisanal Chinatown” markers for these shops and artisans!). \nParticipants will go on an outing to visit and shop at a tofu pou. At the Think!Chinatown Studio\, we’ll all enjoy a side-by-side tasting of fresh tofu\, tofu pudding\, and soy milk from all the different tofu pou of Chinatown. You also get to taste other local specialty tofu and soy bean products like tofu pok and 5-spice tofu. Pulling from the ever-growing Chinatown Records archive of 30+ record collections inherited from family and neighbors\, we listen together to songs that have long filled Chinatown living rooms – and the histories and memories that come with them. \nRooted in the belief that we can all be DJs and oral historians\, we invite you to bring a favorite song of your own to share and soundtrack our living room with us\, whether on a vinyl record or online.
