SUMMARY:Book Club: The Disaster Tourist by Yun Ko-Eun.
DESCRIPTION:Come join us at the wonderful Orion Bar in Bushwick for a book club discussion around The Disaster Tourist by Yun Ko-Eun.  Tickets are $15 and include a beverage of your choice at Orion Bar as well as an entry into a raffle for a special YPB merch and book bundle! \nAbout Yellow Peril Books’ Book Club \nWe’re so excited to welcome you to our ongoing community book club hosted around Brooklyn! Each month\, we host an in person book club at a local AAPI owned business in Brooklyn. We started this book club with a few goals in mind \nSpotlight some of our favorite AAPI owned businesses\, and ensure ticket revenues are invested in supporting these amazing gems. For most events\, all ticket proceeds go towards the hosting business. If you’d like to donate to YPB to support our programming efforts\, please donate here. \nFeature different Asian and Asian American authors and their works \nBring our community together in person to facilitate deeper conversation and connection \nYou do NOT need to have read or finished the book\, but you do have to be ready for spoilers! We’ll be discussing the themes of the book and you can still participate 🙂 \nAbout The Disaster Tourist by Yun Ko-Eun \nWelcome to the desert island of Mui\, where a paid vacation to paradise is nothing short of a disaster in this “mordantly witty novel [that] reads like a highly literary\, ultra-incisive thriller (Refinery29). \nJungle is a cutting-edge travel agency specializing in tourism to destinations devastated by disaster and climate change. And until she found herself at the mercy of a predatory colleague\, Yona was one of their top representatives. Now on the verge of losing her job\, she’s given a proposition: take a paid “vacation” to the desert island of Mui and pose as a tourist to assess the company’s least profitable holiday. \nWhen she uncovers a plan to fabricate an extravagant catastrophe\, she must choose: prioritize the callous company to whom she’s dedicated her life\, or embrace a fresh start in a powerful new position? An eco-thriller with a fierce feminist sensibility\, The Disaster Tourist introduces a fresh new voice to the United States that engages with the global dialogue around climate activism\, dark tourism\, and the #MeToo movement.
