SUMMARY:Theater: Cymbeline
DESCRIPTION:The National Asian American Theatre Company (NAATCO) will present an all-femme\, all-Asian American production of Cymbeline in New York City in January–February 2025. Cymbeline is one of Shakespeare’s final plays and is about the British king Cymbeline and his daughter\, Imogen. The production features a modern verse translation by Andrea Thome that brings the play’s language into the present. The director\, Brown-Fried chose an all-femme cast to examine gender identity\, performance\, masculine toxicity\, sexual politics\, and power.  \nIn a world shattered by tyranny and poisoned by misogyny\, Cymbeline tells the story of a young woman’s flight from despair to heroism as she rediscovers her lost siblings and brings order to a kingdom ruled by chaos. Performed by an ensemble of eleven women\, Cymbeline is a story of hope and rebirth in the unlikeliest of circumstances. \nCast: Amy Hill as Cymbeline\, Purva Bedi\, Annie Fang\, Anna Ishida\, Narea Kang\, Jennifer Lim\, KK Moggie\, Maria-Christina Oliveras\, Julyana Soelistyo\, Sarah Suzuki\, and Jeena Yi. \nCreative team: Stephen Brown-Fried as director\, Ant Ma as scenic designer\, Mariko Ohigashi as costume designer\, Yiyuan Li as lighting designer\, and Caroline Eng as sound designer.
