SUMMARY:MOCA PERFORMS – Echoes of Arrival: Becoming
DESCRIPTION:Immigration is never a single arrival but an ongoing process of becoming. Beyond legal status and paperwork\, immigrants navigate displacement\, alienation\, adaptation\, and the long\, sometimes complicated journey toward belonging. What did you have to learn to survive and build a life in the United States? What did you choose to carry with you from the culture you came from? What was lost in translation? And what new part of yourself emerged along the way? \nEchoes of Arrival returns to the Museum of Chinese in America for a new iteration\, Becoming. Through a collection of personal stories\, the ensemble explores the many ways immigrants remake themselves while making a life in a new country. These stories of change\, resilience\, loss\, discovery\, and belonging illuminate how immigration does not simply transform individuals. DESCRIPTION:Her name translates to “Goddess of Melody and Song”—a title bestowed upon her by a Tibetan lama\, and one she has carried across the globe.\nㅤ\nAfter leaving Tibet on foot across the Himalayas in 1989\, Yungchen Lhamo turned her sacred vocal tradition into a vehicle for global healing\, peace\, and radical compassion. She has since performed in over 80 countries\, collaborating with icons from Philip Glass to Annie Lennox. You don’t need to speak Tibetan to be moved by her music—her voice is a universal language that bypasses the mind and speaks directly to the soul.\nㅤ\nWe are honored to host Yungchen Lhamo at La MaMa for two distinct events this October:\nㅤ\n📍 LOCATION: Ellen Stewart Theatre at La MaMa\nㅤ\n🗓️ EVENT 1: Friday\, October 16\, 2026\n• One Drop of Kindness Fundraising Day — A special community-focused event benefiting the One Drop of Kindness Foundation\, supporting global humanitarian and healing initiatives.\nㅤ\n🗓️ EVENT 2: Saturday\, October 17\, 2026\n• “An Evening of Happiness” Concert — Yungchen Lhamo live in concert\, accompanied by guitarist John Alevizakis\, for an extraordinary evening of music and sacred song.
