A quarter century on\, Film at Lincoln Center (FLC) and the New York Asian Film Foundation announce the first highlights of the 25th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF)\, a landmark anniversary edition celebrating 25 years of championing the filmmakers\, stars\, and cinematic movements that have shaped the future of Asian cinema. Running from July 10 to July 26 across five New York venues\, including Film at Lincoln Center\, SVA Theatre\, IFC Center\, Anthology Film Archives\, and the Korean Cultural Center New York\, NYAFF 2026 marks a major milestone for North America’s leading festival of Asian cinema. Screenings at FLC take place July 10–23\, and two venues are homecomings: Anthology Film Archives (where the festival began in 2002) on July 16–18\, and IFC Center (the festival’s home for four formative editions) on July 13\, 15\, 16\, and 22. \n“We are proud to support the 25th edition of the New York Asian Film Festival\, and uplift the stories of Asian communities in NYC and beyond\,” said Commissioner Rafael Espinal of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. “Festivals like NYAFF are an extremely vital part of the city’s filmmaking and entertainment ecosystem\, and create platforms and opportunities to expose New Yorkers to new and diverse storytelling.” \nOpening Night on July 10 at FLC will feature the North American premiere of Yeon Sang-ho’s Colony\, the highly anticipated Korean box-office sensation fresh from its world premiere in Cannes’ Midnight Screenings program—the same section that launched Train to Busan 10 years ago. Already the fastest Korean hit of the year\, the film locks its survivors inside a central Seoul high-rise while a virus tears through the floors quicker than anyone can say “zombie.” Jun Ji-hyun (Gianna Jun) plays the biotech professor who turns reluctant hero\, alongside Ji Chang-wook\, Koo Kyo-hwan\, and Shin Hyun-been. Yeon Sang-ho will be in person on Opening Night ahead of the film’s August 28 theatrical release. \nColony arrives after Korean cinema’s strongest box-office rebound since the pandemic. NYAFF is planning a special presentation of the year’s other biggest hit: The King’s Warden\, now the highest-grossing Korean film of all time\, starring Yoo Hae-jin (Exhuma) and Park Ji-hoon. One film broke the all-time record. The other got to the top faster than anything else this year. DESCRIPTION:Join Asian American Arts Alliance (A4) for July Town Hall at ICP\, welcoming filmmakers\, producers\, and distributors to share their projects and resources with the AAPI creative community. This month’s featured presenters include Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal and Settanant Thanakitkoses\, co-producers of The Last Breath of Sam Yan (2023); and Stacey Young\, executive director of the Pacific Island Film Festival (PIFF) of New York City. Registrants will receive free admission to the museum’s exhibitions. \nAdditionally\, the evening will feature a line-up of brief pitches from the community. After the presentations\, we’ll host a potluck meal in the ICP Cafe\, so please bring something to share; homemade or store bought items are welcome. A4 will provide drinks. \nThis event is FREE and open to the public. We suggest a $5 donation to go towards keeping A4’s programs free. RSVP is required to attend and/or pitch\, and will include admission to ICP’s galleries. You do not have to pitch to attend. \nAbout A4’s Town Hall\nTown Hall is A4’s bi-monthly community gathering event that features presentations\, pitches\, and power networking over a potluck meal. DESCRIPTION:Asia Society presents Kyoko Kagawa Rarities\, a series of five remarkable films starring the beloved Japanese actress\, in partnership with Anthology Film Archives\, from August 13-16\, 2026. \nFarewell to the Highland Station\nNobuo Nakagawa\, Japan\, 1951\, 35mm\, 76 min.\nIn Japanese with English subtitles. \nA botanical researcher (Michitaro Mizushima) visits a tuberculosis sanatorium in the highlands. Collecting plants in the area for his research\, he falls in love with the nurse in white (Kyoko Kagawa). \nProduced quickly to capitalize on the massive success of Minoru Obata’s hit song of the same title\, within the genre trappings of the “kayo eiga” (song film)\, Farewell to the Highland Station elevates to the sublime under the masterful direction of Nobuo Nakagawa. Known in most histories exclusively for his classics of the horror genre\, legendary critic Shiguehiko Hasumi has explained that Nakagawa is indistinguishable without this film. Instead\, he finds himself inhabiting the space with a cohort (Ryo Kase\, Azusa Takehana) at a crossroads in their lives. Together\, and with the elders at the neighborhood bar (Kagawa\, Sansei Shiomi)\, shared space and time leads to breakthroughs in character. \nThe debut feature of Chihiro Ikeda\, a student (and later collaborator) of Kiyoshi Kurosawa\, Tokyo Rendezvous unites new talent with veterans of the industry. Set on the same island within the Seto Inland Sea\, Five Sisters interrogates marriage in a contemporary Japan amidst the lively and dynamic sisterhood of the Hinata family. \nWith Kinuyo Tanaka as Michi\, the eldest\, and a great Yoko Sugi as the spirited Kuniko\, Kagawa plays Mie\, the youngest and the heart of the distinguished ensemble. Why should Shozo pay heed to his new wife or his ex when the sweet purrs of Lily the cat are what makes his heart flutter? \nThe film’s titular quadrangle\, like a prism\, magnifies the competing impulses towards modernity\, tradition\, and escape. Popular comic veteran Hisaya Morishige plays the hapless Shozo\, while screen legend Isuzu Yamada plays kimono-clad ex-wife Shinako. Bursting out of a closet in full beach attire\, Kagawa is introduced as the mambo-crazed moga (modern girl) Fukuko.
