DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE BOOK \nA seafood anthology on coastal culture\, ocean health\, and whole fish cooking. \nFrom BEAM Studio\, in collaboration with nonprofit Eating with the Ecosystem\, EATING THE WHOLE FISH is a 200-page exploration of sustainable seafood systems through recipes\, interviews\, photography\, essays\, and cultural stories. It began with the simple idea that eating local species requires (predominantly white) New England communities to learn to eat the fish whole. This idea grew into a project exploring care\, cross-cultural dialogue\, food culture\, and the people working to build better relationships with our oceans. \nABOUT THE AUTHORS \nBEAM is a next-generation studio shaping the public life of emerging science. \nFounded by Annie Chen and Zoe Lee\, BEAM partners with climate tech innovators\, scientists\, policymakers\, and local communities to shape how new ideas move beyond the lab and into the world. Through research\, design\, systems thinking\, and new media storytelling\, BEAM builds worlds people can step into—where new technologies can be encountered\, understood\, and stewarded forward at scale. \nDrawing from their backgrounds in biology\, behavioral decision sciences\, and design\, the duo brings interdisciplinary fluency and sociotechnical expertise to collaborations that span ocean restoration\, biotechnology\, astrobiology\, and climate governance. Their ultimate mission: to align scientific possibility with collective life. \nTheir work has been supported by NASA\, NOAA\, MIT Media Lab\, EY Intelligent Realities Lab\, Science History Institute\, MacDowell\, NYFA\, Interlace Fund\, and more. They are Research Affiliates at the MIT Media Lab’s Community Biotechnology Initiative and in the Year 12 Creative Science track of NEW INC.
