It is not just a show — it is a movement. A monthly showcase in the heart of Midtown Manhattan\, steps away from Times Square\, designed for audiences who crave bold storytelling\, sharp perspective\, and the raw energy of international voices. \nThe show reflects the momentum of global comedians who have changed the landscape of comedy — Hasan Minhaj\, Andrew Schulz\, Nimesh Patel\, Ali Wong\, Russell Peters\, Vir Das\, Hari Kondabolu\, Zarna Garg\, Jimmy O. Yang\, Aparna Nancherla\, Aakash Singh\, and more. Comedy fans search phrases like “shows like Hasan Minhaj\,” “brown comedy in NYC\,” or “stand-up comedy similar to Russell Peters\,” and Laughing Lassi appears because the DNA of the show is exactly that — smart\, multicultural storytelling rooted in immigrant experience and identity. \nWhy Laughing Lassi Matters\nMost comedy lineups in Manhattan look the same: similar voices\, similar perspectives\, similar punchlines. \nLaughing Lassi is different. \nAt Laughing Lassi\, comedians talk about: \n\nImmigrant parents who negotiate everything\nMarrying outside your culture\nConfusing dating rules in America\nBeing brown in corporate America\nNavigating two identities at once — “American enough” but also “brown enough”\n\nFrom Bollywood jokes to crowd work about spicy food to diaspora humor that hits at your soul\, these comedians deliver observational humor\, storytelling comedy\, dark humor\, and clean comedy depending on the night. \nMany audience members discover Laughing Lassi while searching: \n\ncomedy near me\nNYC date night ideas\nunique NYC experiences\ncomedy shows tonight NYC\nthings to do in NYC this weekend\nfun things to do in Manhattan\nbest nightlife in NYC\n\nOthers find it while specifically looking for a: \n\nsouth asian standup comedy show\nindian standup comedy show in new york city\npakistani standup comedy show\nbangladeshi standup comedy show\ndesi standup comedy show in new york city\nsouth asian standup comedy show in new jersey\n\nOr when searching generic NYC entertainment terms: \n\nstandup comedy show\ncomedy show\nstandup comedy show new york city\nlive standup comedy show in new york city\ncheap comedy tickets new york\nbest comedy show in manhattan\nbest standup comedy show in new york city\n\nLaughing Lassi ranks because it is genuinely what people are searching for. \nNYC Is Ready for This Comedy Era\nNew York City has always been the proving ground of comedy. Every great comedian hustles through Comedy Cellar\, Comedy Cellar NYC\, Comedy Cellar New York\, Gotham Comedy Club\, and eventually dreams of performing at iconic venues like Radio City Music Hall\, just like the tours of Hasan Minhaj’s The King’s Jester and Act Your Age. \nBut Laughing Lassi fills a gap that no traditional comedy club was addressing. \nFor the first time in NYC: \n\nBrown people are not just the audience.\nBrown comedians are the headliners.\n\nThe laughter in that room hits differently\, because finally the stories being told onstage reflect the people sitting in the crowd. \nMore Than a Show: It’s a Cultural Touchpoint\nLaughing Lassi is not just entertainment — it is a cultural gathering. \nAudience members describe it as: \n\n“brown community therapy”\n“brown TED Talk\, but funnier”\n“Bollywood meets Andrew Schulz crowd work”\n“Hasan Minhaj energy with Russell Peters nostalgia”\n\nSouth Asian humor blends seamlessly with NYC nightlife\, making the show a go-to destination for: \n\nfriend groups looking for something new\,\ncouples searching for date night ideas NYC\,\nsolo newcomers searching comedy near me\,\ntourists exploring things to do in New York City\,\nbrown singles hoping to meet other South Asians.\n\nLaughing Lassi regularly draws diverse crowds from: \n\nManhattan\nWest Village\nBrooklyn\nQueens\nNew Jersey\nLong Island\n\nThis show is becoming the official South Asian culture event NYC didn’t know it needed. \nA Community That Represents Millions\nLaughing Lassi is the only show where an audience member can shout: \n\n“Say something in Bengali!” \n\n…and three comics on the lineup actually can. \nIt is the only show where: \n\nA Pakistani comedian roasts a Bangladeshi guy sitting in the front row\,\nAn Indian comic compares aunties to CIA interrogators\,\nA Filipino American jokes about being mistaken for South Asian\,\nA Korean American explains why brown parents and Korean parents are the same — just different spices.\n\nLaughing Lassi is a multicultural comedy night with global flavor. \nWhat Makes Laughing Lassi SEO-Powerful\nBecause it includes phrases people actively search: \n\ncomedy cellar nyc\ncomedy shows nyc\ncomedy club nyc\ncomedy club new york\nnyc comedy club\nbest comedy show in west village\nsouth asian comedy nyc\ndesi standup comedy show new york city\nindian comedians nyc\npakistani comedy show nyc\nbangladeshi comedy show new york\n\n…and NYC tourism search terms: \n\nlive comedy near times square\nlast minute tickets NYC\ngroup activities NYC\nweekend events NYC\n\nLaughing Lassi naturally ranks. \nSearch engines see Laughing Lassi associated with high-value keywords like: \n\ncrowd work comedy\nstorytelling comedy\nimmigrant humor\ndiaspora jokes\nmulticultural comedy\n\nThis helps Google\, Instagram\, YouTube\, TikTok\, and Eventbrite connect Laughing Lassi with searches for “shows like Hasan Minhaj” or “brown comedy NYC.” \nLaughing Lassi is the Future of Comedy\nLaughing Lassi is becoming the cultural home for the next generation of comedians — the ones who will headline Netflix specials\, late-night shows\, and eventually sell out Radio City Music Hall. \nBecause the future of comedy is not one voice. \nIt’s many. \nAnd they’re all on this stage. \nCall to Action:\nFollow the journey on Instagram: @LaughingLassiCome see the show that everyone is talking about — the one critics and audiences call: \n\n“The best standup comedy show in Manhattan.” \n\n\n“The funniest Desi comedy show in New York City.” \n\n\n“If Hasan Minhaj and Russell Peters had a baby — it would be Laughing Lassi.” \n\nTickets sell out fast.Seats are limited. And every month is a completely new lineup.

SUMMARY:Theater: Winterfest: Two New Solo Works and a Staged Reading
DESCRIPTION:Leviathan Lab’s WinterFest proudly presents a double feature of two new\, compelling solo performances and a staged reading of a new dark comedy: The National New Play Network NYC Rolling World Premiere of FULL CONTACT; a developmental workshop of X#*! YOU VERY MUCH\, MOM; and a one-night staged reading of BLOOD/SUCKER. \nWriter/actors Ariel Estrada and Đavid Lee Huỳnh will each perform their respective stories in TheaterLab’s intimate white box space—an evening of two\, hour-long solo works that challenge what it means to be Asian American now. \nIn FULL CONTACT\, after a week alone in his apartment\, Filipino American Ariel Estrada* unravels under the weight of his memories: a violent cult\, a lost faith\, and the echo of his late father’s demands. Caught between guilt and survival\, he fights to take the first step toward healing before his mind pulls him under. Presented by Leviathan Lab and Mixed Asian Media. \nIn X#*! YOU VERY MUCH\, MOM\, theatre meets TED Talk meets dark family secrets. With whimsy\, sardonic humor\, and heart\, Đavid Lee Huỳnh* shares how the effects of French colonialism shaped Vietnam\, rippled out\, and made it so #%@#ing hard for his mom to say “I love you.” Presented by Second Generation Productions in association with Leviathan Lab. \nPLUS! A ONE-NIGHT ONLY STAGED READING OF BLOOD/SUCKER on Nov 24 \nIn Anamaria Guerzon’s BLOOD/SUCKER\, Ryan\, a high school social studies teacher\, is tired. He’s been spending late nights grading homework\, as well as fending off parental complaints about his Asian-American History class\, who claim that he is using ‘Critical Race Theory’ to indoctrinate the students. Then Hillary\, the Principal\, begins to take an interest in his class. And the students are beginning to act very strange…BLOOD/SUCKER is a bloody political satire/horror play about the public school system\, and those it feeds off of. Presented by Leviathan Lab.

DESCRIPTION:Book Club Bar’s in-person romance book club! We’re reading “Something Cheeky” by Thien-Kim Lam\n\n\nA steamy new rom-com from the popular author of Happy Endings and Full Exposure\, where two friends get the opportunity to work together on their dream project—a Cinderella rock musical with an all-Asian cast—and discover that falling in love was the easy part… \n“Lam is… the queen of sex-positive multiracial romance.” —Booklist \nZoe Tran is living her best life\, designing plus-size lingerie at her own award-winning clothing boutique\, when suddenly her college best friend reenters her life. Derek Bui is offering a tantalizing chance to recapture a forgotten dream: designing costumes for the musical they created together years ago. \nDerek has loved Zoe since freshman year but never had the guts to confess his true feelings. Now he’s directing the Vietnamese Cinderella rock musical they dreamed up in college. The stakes are high: it’s the first production with an all-Asian cast and creative team at Washington\, D.C.’s largest theatre and if they can make it work\, they’ll head to Broadway. But his real goal: get Zoe back in his life. \nA proud demisexual\, Zoe only ever saw Derek as her best friend\, but working on their dream production together brings them closer than ever. Sparks ignite under the hot spotlights. But when the theatre’s artistic director pressures Derek to make the musical “less Asian\,” he and Zoe clash on whether to stay true to their vision or compromise to keep the production alive. \nWill Zoe and Derek finally let love take center stage or will their creative differences close the curtains on them forever? \n— \nPurchase copies of the book SOMETHING CHEEKY \nPurchase the audiobook on libro.fm! \n  \nWhat your ticket includes: \n– $8 off any drink at the bar \n  \nGrab a signature cocktail at the bar and tell us what you thought of the book! SUMMARY:MOCA TALKS with Edward Wong: A Family's Reckoning with China
DESCRIPTION:Join Edward Wong\, New York Times correspondent\, for a talk on cross-Pacific migration and family memory.\n\n\n$10 General Admission | $5 Student & Senior | Free for MOCA Members \nThe Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) cordially invites you to a special conversation with Edward Wong\, diplomatic correspondent for The New York Times and author of At the Edge of Empire: A Family’s Reckoning with China. The son of Chinese immigrants in Washington\, D.C.\, Wong grew up among family secrets\, especially those surrounding his father Yook Kearn Wong\, who served in Mao’s People’s Liberation Army before making a perilous escape to Hong Kong in 1962. As Beijing bureau chief\, Wong retraced elements of that past while examining the forces behind a resurgent China: intensified nationalism under President Xi Jinping\, ethnic conflict in Xinjiang and Tibet\, and pro-democracy movements in Hong Kong. \nThis program will also highlight the history of southern Chinese migration to the United States\, especially from Taishan County in Guangdong\, and the enduring transnational ties among Chinese migrants. By connecting geopolitics with family memory and community networks\, the talk will show how cross-Pacific migration continues to shape Chinese American life today. \nAbout Edward Wong \nEdward Wong is a diplomatic correspondent for The New York Times and author of At the Edge of Empire: A Family’s Reckoning with China. The book received the inaugural Baifang Schell Book Prize from the Asia Society in New York and was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize in the U.K. It was named by The Washington Post as a top non-fiction book of 2024 and by The Atlantic as a top summer read. Edward has reported for the Times for 27 years\, working for 13 of those as a correspondent and bureau chief from China and Iraq. Edward was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University and has been a visiting professor at Princeton University and U.C. Berkeley. While writing his book\, he was a fellow at the Wilson Center in Washington and at the Belfer Center at Harvard Kennedy School. Edward was awarded the Livingston Prize for his reporting on the Iraq War and was on a team of finalists for a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the war. He received the Edward Weintal Prize from Georgetown University in 2024 for diplomatic reporting. Edward graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in English literature and from U.C. Berkeley with joint master’s degrees in journalism and international studies. He has received an honorary doctorate from Middlebury Language Schools. He speaks on global affairs on television\, radio\, and podcasts. \nAbout At the Edge of Empire \nThe son of Chinese immigrants in Washington\, DC\, Edward Wong grew up among family secrets. His father toiled in Chinese restaurants and rarely spoke of his native land or his years in the People’s Liberation Army under Mao. Yook Kearn Wong came of age during the Japanese occupation in World War II and the Communist revolution\, when he fell under the spell of Mao’s promise of a powerful China. His astonishing journey as a soldier took him from Manchuria during the Korean War to Xinjiang on the Central Asian frontier. In 1962\, disillusioned with the Communist Party\, he made plans for a desperate escape to Hong Kong. \nWhen Edward Wong became the Beijing bureau chief for The New York Times\, he investigated his father’s mysterious past while assessing for himself the dream of a resurgent China. He met the citizens driving the nation’s astounding economic boom and global expansion—and grappling with the vortex of nationalistic rule under Xi Jinping\, the most powerful leader since Mao. Following in his father’s footsteps\, he witnessed ethnic struggles in Xinjiang and Tibet and pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. And he had an insider’s view of the world’s two superpowers meeting at a perilous crossroads. \nWong tells a moving chronicle of a family and a nation that spans decades of momentous change and gives profound insight into a new authoritarian age transforming the world. A groundbreaking book\, At the Edge of Empire is the essential work for understanding China today. \n\n\n\nNot a MOCA member yet? SUMMARY:Fair Pricing Act 101 Community Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The Fair Pricing Act (S705/A2140) is proposed state legislation designed to bring transparency and equity to hospital pricing. \nIts core mission: \n\n\nStandardize the cost of routine medical procedures. \n\n\nRequire hospitals to publicly justify any additional charges. \n\n\nWhy does this matter? Disparate and predatory pricing is a significant barrier to necessary\, affordable care\, directly leading to delayed diagnoses and poorer long-term health outcomes in our communities. For many—especially groups like AAPI New Yorkers—cost is the main hurdle to seeking routine preventative care. No family should have to choose between medical bills and basic needs like rent or groceries. \nJoin us to discuss how the Fair Pricing Act is a crucial step toward building an equitable and affordable healthcare landscape for all.

SUMMARY:Exhibit: Transtrack
DESCRIPTION:Transtrack transforms the idea of a train platform into a multisensory space where the voices of elderly immigrants recount life journeys\, weaving an immersive landscape of sound\, vibration\, and oral history. The work amplifies overlooked immigrant voices—honoring those whose labor\, like the immigrants who built the transcontinental railroad\, remains absent from history. \nAlong a line of vibrating speakers\, memories ripple like passing trains. As the noise fades\, gentle voices recall landscapes that shaped their journeys. This shifting soundscape reflects the emotional terrain of immigration\, where the past is never still and stories unfold like landscapes passing a train window. Inside the space\, a waiting area invites new recordings\, connecting elders and younger generations through shared storytelling. \nBuilding on Phunsombatlert’s community centered practice and ongoing exploration of oral immigration histories gathered from local elders\, the exhibition invites participants from diverse backgrounds to share memories of landscape and migration\, fostering moments of cross-cultural connection. More than an artwork\, Transtrack is a living archive—preserving immigration memory through movement\, sound\, and presence. \nTransmitter is currently open 1–6pm on weekends and by appointment.

SUMMARY:Music: Triple Dose @ EVOL NYC
DESCRIPTION:Herbal takes over EVOL NYC 11/14 for Triple Dose — a night of underground hip-hop\, electronic\, rage & hyperpop with Yaka\, Delphia! & Xihong.\n\n\nHerbal Presents: Triple Dose @ EVOL NYC \n  \nDate: 11/14/2025-11/15/2025 \nTime: 10:00PM – 4:00AM \nLocation: EVOL NYC 2 Thompson St 2nd Fl\, New York\, NY 10013 \nHerbal takes over EVOL NYC for a night of pure underground energy. \nExperience the collision of underground hip-hop\, electronic\, rage\, and hyperpop — raw sounds from the next wave of the scene. \nFeaturing Artists: \nYaka — Shanghai-born artist\, producer\, and multidisciplinary creative blending Atlanta’s trap roots with UK jungle and East Asian melodies. At just 21\, he’s the creator of “Jungle Rage\,” a high-energy fusion of rage\, techno\, and tribal rhythms. \nAfter producing for artists like GAI and working with Riot Games on Valorant China\, Yaka has become one of the most dynamic young voices in the Asian underground. Now based in Brooklyn\, he continues to push boundaries between hip-hop and club music through explosive live performances and forward-thinking production. \nDelphia! – A forward-thinking artist from the emerging collective Virtual Adam\, Delphia! blends elements of dance\, electronic\, experimental pop\, and house into a cohesive sound. With his distinctive vocals and genre-bending production\, he transforms contrasting influences into a powerful and deeply personal musical experience. \nXihong (西红) – The liveliest “red alert” from Seafood Market Records\, known in the scene as the Chili Pepper Spirit of East Asian hip-hop. \nHis signature track “荆棘拳” kicks straight into a maze of stream-of-consciousness lyricism — words abstract like mysterious letters mailed from the edge of the universe. His rhymes twist and dance like tongue twisters; even AI needs a moment to process them. \nExpect heavy drops\, glitchy synths\, and unfiltered performance energy all night long. \nNo rules. No limits. Just sound. \nStay loud — stay underground.

SUMMARY:Jazz: Henry Threadgill\, Vijay Iyer\, Dafnis Prieto Trio
DESCRIPTION:Pulitzer Prize-winning composer\, saxophonist and flutist\, and NEA Jazz Master Henry Threadgill has spent his life reimagining the jazz landscape. \nA groundbreaking innovator with his own unique musical universe\, at 81\, Threadgill continues to push boundaries – including as part of this genre-blurring all-star trio with fellow jazz legends\, MacArthur “genius” grant recipients\, and musician-composers pianist Vijay Iyer and percussionist Dafnis Prieto. Following a performance in Boston last season\, Arts Fuse hailed the “unique summit of three intellectually minded luminaries who bridged jazz\, classical\, Latin and South Asian influences.” The trio has yet to record together\, and their performances are rare. Don’t miss the chance to hear them.

SUMMARY:From “Cool Japan” to “Your Japan” in 2025 (Hybrid)
DESCRIPTION:Japan’s global appeal is undeniable—but how well do official narratives match what international audiences actually want? Drawing on his role as a Cool Japan Producer for the Japanese Cabinet Office\, Benjamin W. Boas highlights the need to shift from a government-branded “Cool Japan” paradigm to the more participatory\, fan-driven “Your Japan.” He examines what’s working (content exports\, inbound-tourism touchpoints\, local city branding) and what still misses the mark (top-down campaigns\, language access\, and diversity). Boas shares behind-the-scenes examples from NHK WORLD programs and community-level projects in Nakano\, and addresses today’s so-called “overtourism\,” arguing that many pain points are really problems of mismanagement. In contrast to top-down efforts\, grassroots phenomena are filling the gap: from overseas anime fandoms to the growth of riichi (Japanese) mahjong clubs in New York City\, organic cultural movements are shaping “Your Japan”—the personal Japan fans embrace on their own terms. He concludes with practical recommendations for educators\, policymakers\, and creatives on aligning domestic priorities with overseas expectations.

SUMMARY:Exhibit: The Web: The Birth and Legacy of New York’s First Asian Gay Bar
DESCRIPTION:In the early 1990s\, when racism and homophobia shadowed New York’s nightlife\, at the corner of Madison Avenue and East 58th Street\, a quiet revolution took place. The Web\, known in Chinese as 盘丝洞\, opened as New York’s first Asian gay bar\, founded by Alan Chow and his business partner Chan. For a generation of Asian queer immigrants who had long existed in the margins\, The Web offered what New York had never before given its Asian queer community: a home. \nThe Web is a space where Asian queer men could see themselves reflected\, respected\, and celebrated. This exhibition\, through archival materials\, photography\, and a project-specific interview zine\, we revisit The Web’s legacy and see how it redefined Asian queer nightlife in New York. In a time shaped by instability and uncertainty\, the act of imagining new worlds carries contemporary relevance. In that sense\, Between Worlds: the Intangible Thread is two artists expanding reality by holding open alternatives. It is through these alternatives that dialogue occurs—across practices\, across stories\, and across the ephemeral yet vivid spaces between what was\, what is\, and what might be. \n\nChinese American Arts Council / Gallery 456\n456 Broadway\, FL3\nOpening Reception: Nov 14\, 6–8 PM\nExhibition Dates: Nov 14 – Dec 5\, 2025\nGallery Hours: Mon – Fri 1 – 6 pm or by appointment
