SUMMARY:Meet William Pao\, Author of Breakthrough & Dr. Harold Varmus Nobel Laureate
DESCRIPTION:Meet the doctors\, scientists and patients patients fighting the world’s worst diseases\nCharting the discovery of eight revolutionary drugs\,\n\n\nMeet the doctors\, scientists and patients patients fighting the world’s worst diseases \n‘A must read.’ Siddhartha Mukherjee\, bestselling author of The Emperor of All Maladies \nWhat does it take to create a new medicine? The trajectory from laboratory to your neighbourhood pharmacy rarely runs smooth. Drug hunting demands radical leaps of imagination\, the expertise of many… and a hefty dollop of luck. Unsurprisingly\, ‘eureka’ moments come few and far between – but\, when they do\, they change lives. \nCharting the discovery of eight revolutionary drugs\, Dr William Pao cuts to the innovative heart of biomedical research and celebrates the tireless work of the scientists\, doctors\, patients and families fighting for better medical care. For each of these medicines\, whether a potentially life-saving new treatment for cancer\, or something as commonplace as paracetamol\, there stands a cast of characters and a wealth of stories. Documenting these fascinating journeys\, Breakthrough grants a privileged\, behind-the-scenes look at the medicines that improve – and very often save – our lives. \nForeword by Nobel Prize-Winner Harold Varmus

SUMMARY:Book: David Glasgow and Kenji Yoshino in Conversation with Deborah Archer: How Equality Wins (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Renowned legal experts David Glasgow and Kenji Yoshino (Say the Right Thing) join us for an online conversation with ACLU president Deborah Archer about reimagining the work of diversity\, equity\, and inclusion (DEI) in a divided nation — and their new book\, How Equality Wins: A New Vision for an Inclusive America. \nWhat went wrong with DEI? Facing a relentless political\, legal\, and cultural attack for DEI programs\, corporations and universities are abandoning the DEI programs they previously championed\, and the playbook Americans once had for advancing equality no longer seems viable. In How Equality Wins\, David Glasgow and Kenji Yoshino unpack where DEI went wrong\, offering a roadmap to rebuild equality for the new era. Drawing on peerless legal expertise and extensive experience advising leaders in corporate America\, academia\, and the non-profit sector\, Yoshino and Glasgow share tangible strategies to put this nation back on a more inclusive path. \nIn a special online conversation\, hear Glasgow\, Yoshino and Archer discuss how politicians\, cultural institutions\, and everyday Americans can fight for equality and win: fostering free speech and dissent\, reclaiming the concept of merit\, and helping to ensure that the work of equality can overcome the backlash and emerge stronger on the other side.

Zorah Sharaf brought shame upon her family. What’s the truth? Depends on who you ask. \nThe Sharaf family is the picture of success. Prosperous\, rich\, happy. They came to this country as refugees with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. And now\, after years of hard work\, they live in the most exclusive neighborhood\, their growing family attending the most prestigious schools. Zorah\, the eldest daughter\, is the apple of her father’s eye. \nWhen an unthinkable tragedy strikes\, everyone is left reeling and the family is thrust into the court of public opinion. There is talk that behind closed doors the Sharafs’ happy household was anything but. Did the Sharaf family achieve the American dream? Or was the image of the model immigrant family just a façade? \nLike a literary game of ping-pong\, Good People compels the reader to reconsider what might have happened even on the previous page. Told through a kaleidoscope of perspectives\, it is a riveting\, provocative\, and haunting story of family—sisters\, brothers\, mothers\, fathers\, and the communities that claim us as family in difficult times. \n  \nPatmeena Sabit was born in Kabul a few years after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. When she was a month old\, her family fled the conflict and became refugees in Pakistan\, joining the millions of other Afghans that had sought refuge there. They later moved to the United States and she grew up in Virginia. She currently lives in Toronto. \n  \nPrachi Gupta is an award-winning journalist and former senior reporter at Jezebel. They Called Us Exceptional was longlisted for a PEN/Open Book Award. She won a Writers Guild Award for her investigative essay “Stories About My Brother.” Her work was featured in The Best American Magazine Writing 2021 and has appeared in The Atlantic\, The Washington Post Magazine\, Marie Claire\, Salon\, Elle\, and elsewhere. She lives in New York City.

SUMMARY:Jen Shin launches "The Blue House I Loved\," with Andrea Chiney
DESCRIPTION:“Encourages us to engage with one another in the communal—and vital—practice of remembering. A beautiful book.” —Bao Phi\n\n\nJoin us for the launch of Kao Kalia Yang and Jen Shin’sThe Blue House I Loved\, a beautifully illustrated story of Hmong refugees’ beloved first home after arriving in the United States.\nIlustrator Jen Shin will read The Blue House I Loved\, followed by a conversation\, Q&A\, and signing. \nPreorder your copy of The Blue House I Loved! \nCan’t make it to the event? Preorder at the link above to receive a signed copy for store pickup or shipping. Indicate any personalization requests in the “Instructions and comments” field during checkout. \n \nAbout the book\nThe Blue House I Loved centers on a family of newly arrived Hmong refugees who move into the lower level of a duplex in St. Paul\, Minnesota. The narrator loves her aunt and uncle’s home with its mismatched furniture\, but it is too small for the large family. The boy cousins sleep in the three-season porch\, where their wet hair freezes in wintertime\, and the rest of the family crowds into two bedrooms. Yet this is the cherished home where they live and love\, their own small corner of a very large and unfamiliar place\, and in this blue house a young girl learns about her new country. Eventually\, the family moves in search of more space\, and years later the house is torn down. Where it was\, green grass now grows. But for this girl and her family\, the ghost of the house remains\, its memories a strong thread that holds time at bay and hearts close together. \nCombining Kao Kalia Yang’s lyrical prose with ethereal illustrations by artist and architect Jen Shin\, The Blue House I Loved speaks to the multitude of refugee experiences around the world\, honoring the challenges they face and the homes they create together. \nAdvanced Praise \n“For those of us denied a place in the history books\, our memory is like beautiful art meant to be shared. Through the gift of her art\, Kao Kalia Yang once again encourages us to engage with one another in the communal—and vital—practice of remembering. A beautiful book.”—Bao Phi\, author of You Are Life \n“Artist Shin’s architectural prowess enables spectacularly meticulous illustrations from multiple viewpoints that undeniably elevate Hmong American Yang’s poignant\, longing prose. Intricate full-color details—hanging flyswatter\, scattered sneakers\, fading hopscotch grid\, a child too small to reach the faucet—add resonating depth\, underscoring a loving family in constant motion.” —Kirkus Reviews \n \nAbout the illustrator\nJen Shin is an interdisciplinary artist and urbanist. The daughter of immigrants and granddaughter of refugees\, she is fascinated by what it means to make a home and by the places where communities create home together. A Flatbush resident\, Jen has contributed illustrations to Voices of Lefferts\, a community history project in Flatbush/Prospect Lefferts Gardens. She lives and works in Brooklyn. \n \nAbout Andrea Chiney\nAndrea Chiney is an architect and educator with Peruvian\, Chinese\, and Japanese roots. She brings over a decade of experience in architecture\, specializing in public engagement. Prior to joining A+A+A\, she collaborated with institutional clients\, including the Brooklyn Public Library\, Queens Public Library\, and the Crystal Bridges Museum\, to develop community engagement and impact strategies for new libraries and public art installations. SUMMARY:The Joy of Feasting - Rasa\, Flavor & the Indonesian Table: a Rasa Lab
DESCRIPTION:Taste Indonesian rasa with Miranti: explore spice palettes\, aromatics\, and flavor-building—learn to recognize authentic Indonesian flavors.\n\n\nThe Joy of Feasting is an interactive food experience exploring Rasa—the Indonesian concept of taste\, feeling\, and essence—through the flavors\, aromatics\, and shared practices of Indonesian cuisine. \nGuided by The Joy of Feasting and chef Miranti\, this session invites participants to taste\, smell\, learn\, move\, and reflect on how Indonesian food is built: not from single dishes\, but from layered flavor foundations shaped by land\, trade\, migration\, and community. \nRather than a cooking class or lecture\, this is a sensory\, participatory gathering. We’ll explore key spices and aromatics\, compare Indonesian flavor profiles with other Asian cuisines\, and learn how balance\, contrast\, and intention shape everyday meals. Movement\, conversation\, and collective tasting support the experience—reminding us that eating is relational\, cultural\, and alive. \nNo cooking experience is required. Come curious\, hungry for knowledge\, and ready to engage your senses. \n“Not everyone knows how to cook\, but everyone knows how to eat.”\n— The Joy of Feasting \nWhat You’ll Experience\n\nguided tasting of Indonesian flavor foundations\nintroduction to key spices and aromatics\ncomparison of Indonesian flavor profiles with other Asian cuisines\nreflection on food as culture\, memory\, and relationship\n\nAccessibility & Care\n\nno cooking experience required\ntasting is invitational\, not mandatory\nmovement and participation are gentle and optional\nyou may listen\, observe\, or engage at your own pace\n\nIf you have specific dietary concerns\, you’re welcome to reach out in advance. \nWho This Is For\nThis session is for anyone interested in: \n\nIndonesian food and the spice archipelago\nunderstanding flavor beyond recipes\nfood as culture\, relationship\, and memory\nslowing down and tasting with awareness\n\nAll backgrounds and levels of food knowledge are welcome. \nPart of Rasa Labs\nThis session is part of Rasa Labs\, a series of embodied workshops by Moving Rasa exploring culture\, creativity\, and connection through different mediums. Each lab stands alone. \nFor discounts and package pricing or just to learn more go to: www.movingrasa.com/rasalabsabout \n\n\n\n\nMiranti is an Indonesian native\, the founder of The Joy of Feasting\, a lifestyle brand exploring the intersection of food & culture. With a background in art\, design\, performance and self taught cook\, she uses food as a canvas for artful creations and memorable experiences\, and was described by celebrity chef Graham Elliott as a “Culinary Poet”. \nMiranti is particularly known for her sensitive palette and exceptional and daring flavor combinations. Currently\, Miranti is working towards developing a line of  Joy Of Feasting pantry products\, designed to introduce and preserve her family’s culinary legacy\, and a surprise project due this Fall.

SUMMARY:Asian Americans & Nature - Virtual Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a collaborative workshop exploring the ways Asian Americans relate to nature through reflections on migration\, labor\, and place!\n\n\nAsian Americans & Nature \nJoin us on Tuesday\, February 3rd at 5PM PST / 8PM EST for our next People’s School for Justice session! \nThis will be a collaborative workshop exploring the ways Asian Americans relate to nature through reflections on migration\, labor\, and place! \nHow have Asian Americans historically been positioned in relationship to nature? What new relationships to our environment can we create? How might we question settler urges to own and commodify nature – what new ways of inhabiting the earth are possible? \nParticipants will come together to reflect on the landscapes and everyday environments that shape Asian American lives. Thinking expansively about both “Asian America” and “nature\,” and centering lived experience\, we will explore how migration\, family history\, and place influence our relationships with our environment. \nNo prior knowledge needed. We will begin with short grounding/framing\, historical context\, and case studies around Asian American relationships to nature drawn from my scholarly research\, and then move through guided prompts and shared conversation. Looking forward to being in community with you. ❤️ \nMeet the Facilitator \nK Yin (they/them/ta) is a writer and scholar. They are currently a PhD student in American Studies at Brown. Broadly\, they have interests in and teach on Asian American art\, race and ethnic studies\, and the environment. Their research explores 19th-century visual archives alongside contemporary Asian American art and performance. \nThey were raised between Sonoma County and Zhejiang. They love leaf-wrapped foods of all kinds (tamales\, zongzi\, etc.). You can find their culinary creations at congee_baby on Instagram. \n

It is not just a show — it is a movement. A monthly showcase in the heart of Midtown Manhattan\, steps away from Times Square\, designed for audiences who crave bold storytelling\, sharp perspective\, and the raw energy of international voices. \nThe show reflects the momentum of global comedians who have changed the landscape of comedy — Hasan Minhaj\, Andrew Schulz\, Nimesh Patel\, Ali Wong\, Russell Peters\, Vir Das\, Hari Kondabolu\, Zarna Garg\, Jimmy O. Yang\, Aparna Nancherla\, Aakash Singh\, and more. Comedy fans search phrases like “shows like Hasan Minhaj\,” “brown comedy in NYC\,” or “stand-up comedy similar to Russell Peters\,” and Laughing Lassi appears because the DNA of the show is exactly that — smart\, multicultural storytelling rooted in immigrant experience and identity. \nWhy Laughing Lassi Matters\nMost comedy lineups in Manhattan look the same: similar voices\, similar perspectives\, similar punchlines. \nLaughing Lassi is different. \nAt Laughing Lassi\, comedians talk about: \n\nImmigrant parents who negotiate everything\nMarrying outside your culture\nConfusing dating rules in America\nBeing brown in corporate America\nNavigating two identities at once — “American enough” but also “brown enough”\n\nFrom Bollywood jokes to crowd work about spicy food to diaspora humor that hits at your soul\, these comedians deliver observational humor\, storytelling comedy\, dark humor\, and clean comedy depending on the night. \nMany audience members discover Laughing Lassi while searching: \n\ncomedy near me\nNYC date night ideas\nunique NYC experiences\ncomedy shows tonight NYC\nthings to do in NYC this weekend\nfun things to do in Manhattan\nbest nightlife in NYC\n\nOthers find it while specifically looking for a: \n\nsouth asian standup comedy show\nindian standup comedy show in new york city\npakistani standup comedy show\nbangladeshi standup comedy show\ndesi standup comedy show in new york city\nsouth asian standup comedy show in new jersey\n\nOr when searching generic NYC entertainment terms: \n\nstandup comedy show\ncomedy show\nstandup comedy show new york city\nlive standup comedy show in new york city\ncheap comedy tickets new york\nbest comedy show in manhattan\nbest standup comedy show in new york city\n\nLaughing Lassi ranks because it is genuinely what people are searching for. \nNYC Is Ready for This Comedy Era\nNew York City has always been the proving ground of comedy. Every great comedian hustles through Comedy Cellar\, Comedy Cellar NYC\, Comedy Cellar New York\, Gotham Comedy Club\, and eventually dreams of performing at iconic venues like Radio City Music Hall\, just like the tours of Hasan Minhaj’s The King’s Jester and Act Your Age. \nBut Laughing Lassi fills a gap that no traditional comedy club was addressing. \nFor the first time in NYC: \n\nBrown people are not just the audience.\nBrown comedians are the headliners.\n\nThe laughter in that room hits differently\, because finally the stories being told onstage reflect the people sitting in the crowd. \nMore Than a Show: It’s a Cultural Touchpoint\nLaughing Lassi is not just entertainment — it is a cultural gathering. \nAudience members describe it as: \n\n“brown community therapy”\n“brown TED Talk\, but funnier”\n“Bollywood meets Andrew Schulz crowd work”\n“Hasan Minhaj energy with Russell Peters nostalgia”\n\nSouth Asian humor blends seamlessly with NYC nightlife\, making the show a go-to destination for: \n\nfriend groups looking for something new\,\ncouples searching for date night ideas NYC\,\nsolo newcomers searching comedy near me\,\ntourists exploring things to do in New York City\,\nbrown singles hoping to meet other South Asians.\n\nLaughing Lassi regularly draws diverse crowds from: \n\nManhattan\nWest Village\nBrooklyn\nQueens\nNew Jersey\nLong Island\n\nThis show is becoming the official South Asian culture event NYC didn’t know it needed. \nA Community That Represents Millions\nLaughing Lassi is the only show where an audience member can shout: \n“Say something in Bengali!” \n…and three comics on the lineup actually can. \nIt is the only show where: \n\nA Pakistani comedian roasts a Bangladeshi guy sitting in the front row\,\nAn Indian comic compares aunties to CIA interrogators\,\nA Filipino American jokes about being mistaken for South Asian\,\nA Korean American explains why brown parents and Korean parents are the same — just different spices.\n\nLaughing Lassi is a multicultural comedy night with global flavor. \nWhat Makes Laughing Lassi SEO-Powerful\nBecause it includes phrases people actively search: \n\ncomedy cellar nyc\ncomedy shows nyc\ncomedy club nyc\ncomedy club new york\nnyc comedy club\nbest comedy show in west village\nsouth asian comedy nyc\ndesi standup comedy show new york city\nindian comedians nyc\npakistani comedy show nyc\nbangladeshi comedy show new york\n\n…and NYC tourism search terms: \n\nlive comedy near times square\nlast minute tickets NYC\ngroup activities NYC\nweekend events NYC\n\nLaughing Lassi naturally ranks. \nSearch engines see Laughing Lassi associated with high-value keywords like: \n\ncrowd work comedy\nstorytelling comedy\nimmigrant humor\ndiaspora jokes\nmulticultural comedy\n\nThis helps Google\, Instagram\, YouTube\, TikTok\, and Eventbrite connect Laughing Lassi with searches for “shows like Hasan Minhaj” or “brown comedy NYC.” \nLaughing Lassi is the Future of Comedy\nLaughing Lassi is becoming the cultural home for the next generation of comedians — the ones who will headline Netflix specials\, late-night shows\, and eventually sell out Radio City Music Hall. \nBecause the future of comedy is not one voice. \nIt’s many. \nAnd they’re all on this stage. \nCall to Action:\nFollow the journey on Instagram: @LaughingLassi\nCome see the show that everyone is talking about — the one critics and audiences call: \n“The best standup comedy show in Manhattan.” \n“The funniest Desi comedy show in New York City.” \n“If Hasan Minhaj and Russell Peters had a baby — it would be Laughing Lassi.” \nTickets sell out fast.\nSeats are limited.\nAnd every month is a completely new lineup.

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: The 14th Amendment & Our Communities–Defending Birthright Citizenship
DESCRIPTION:Birthright citizenship—a cornerstone of the 14th Amendment—is once again under attack. In partnership with Asian Law Caucus\, this lunch and learn will explore the history and ongoing relevance of the 14th Amendment\, and how Asian Americans have played a pivotal role in shaping its legacy. \nTogether\, we’ll examine landmark moments including the Chinese Exclusion Act\, United States v. Wong Kim Ark\, and Executive Order 14160\, while reflecting on the broader question: Who gets to be an American citizen? \nA legal representative from the Asian Law Caucus will join us for a live Q&A to address current threats to birthright citizenship and answer your questions. Attendees will leave with historical context\, up-to-date legal insights\, and resources to understand and advocate around this critical issue affecting our communities. \nThe contents of this webinar are for informational purposes only and do not constitute legal advice.
