SUMMARY:The Unheard Melody: Music in Chinese Paintings
DESCRIPTION:What sounds are hidden within a painting? \nDrawing from the musical imagery found in A Collection of Song Dynasty Paintings\, The Unheard Melody: Music in Chinese Paintings invites visitors to discover the sounds and stories preserved in these masterpieces. Through three thematic sections—“Harmony Through Music\,” “Elegance and Refinement in Music\,” and “Music in Common Life”—the special showcase reveals the diverse roles of music in Song society\, from court rituals and literati gatherings to everyday life. \nBringing centuries-old paintings into a contemporary setting\, the showcase creates an immersive dialogue between image and sound through high-resolution reproductions\, specially selected ancient music\, AIGC-generated animations\, and interactive displays featuring traditional Chinese instruments such as the guqin\, pipa\, and bianzhong. \nThis special showcase is presented in collaboration with Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture\, Radio\, Television and Tourism and Zhejiang University. \nOpen Hours: Monday – Friday: 10 AM – 5 PM

SUMMARY:Dreamer's Perspective: Through My Lens
DESCRIPTION:For the third year in a row\, the Center for All Abilities (CAA) is hosting a summer arts showcase\, dedicated to platforming the art of neurodivergent and special needs individuals. This year’s show\, “Dreamer’s Perspective: Through My Lens\,” is focused on portraits\, self-portraits\, and reflections of self-identity — how you see yourself\, how you move through the world\, and what makes you who you are. We encourage artists to share work that reflects personal experience\, perception\, and the many ways people navigate and express their inner worlds. This exhibition aims to create a space for thoughtful\, authentic\, and expansive representations of selfhood and lived experience. \nThe Center for All Abilities is a nonprofit based in Manhattan’s Chinatown which serves as a supportive resource for the special needs community\, particularly among Chinese immigrant families. We provide creative arts therapy\, vocational training\, and community-based programming and workshops to support the whole family. \nThis exhibition is in collaboration with Long Story Short Galleries\, which generously provides their venue and support. The show is also in partnership with Extreme Kids and Crew\, a nonprofit which provides a welcoming\, supportive space for young people with disabilities\, their families and friends\, to connect\, create and learn.

SUMMARY:New Leadership\, New Directions: Bangladesh and Nepal After Political Transition
DESCRIPTION:The start of 2026 marked a pivotal moment for South Asia as Bangladesh and Nepal ushered in new governments through consequential elections. Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is nearing six months in office\, while Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah marked the first 100 days of his administration last month. Both leaders came to power amid widespread public frustration with the political establishment\, demands for greater accountability\, and concerns over the economic prospects of their countries’ rapidly growing youth populations. \nJoin the Asia Society Policy Institute for an expert webinar to assess the two governments’ early performance\, examining progress on electoral promises\, domestic reforms\, economic priorities\, and governance. Panelists will also evaluate the two governments’ evolving foreign policy approaches\, their efforts to navigate an increasingly complex regional landscape shaped by key players like India and China\, and their engagement with Washington. The discussion will explore what these early policy choices reveal about the future trajectories of Bangladesh and Nepal and their implications for regional geopolitics. \nThe virtual discussion will feature Anil Giri\, Chief Sub Editor\, The Kathmandu Post; Raheed Ejaz\, Special Correspondent\, Prothom Alo; and Rishi Gupta\, Assistant Director\, ASPI Delhi. Farwa Aamer\, Director of South Asia Initiatives\, ASPI\, will moderate the discussion. \n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnil Giri is the Chief Sub Editor at The Kathmandu Post\, Nepal’s largest English-language daily\, where he reports on diplomacy\, geopolitics\, international relations\, and national politics. With over two decades of journalistic experience\, he is widely regarded as one of Nepal’s leading voices on foreign policy and regional affairs. SUMMARY:An Evening with Jake Shimabukuro
DESCRIPTION:Since gaining prominence in the early 2000’s\, ukulele marvel Jake Shimabukuro has mesmerized audiences with his innovative and dynamic style\, taking the instrument to dizzying new heights. Over a dozen solo albums\, Shimabukuro has shown a knack for moving effortlessly between genres\, sometimes in the same song. After being taught the instrument by his mother at age four\, Jake became a local phenom\, performing on his own and in a local group Pure Heart. Early in his solo career he became a YouTube sensation when his cover of George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” went viral. Since then\, Jake has gone on to play the world’s most venerable venues\, from The Hollywood Bowl to Lincoln Center to the Sydney Opera House and The N.O. Jazz Fests and collaborated with some of the world’s greatest musicians\, including Yo-Yo Ma\, Bela Fleck and The Flecktones\, Jimmy Buffett\, Jack Johnson\, Bette Midler\, Ziggy Marley\, Sonny Landreth\, Billy Strings\, Lukas & Willie Nelson and Warren Haynes. Shimabukuro has also won his share of awards and\, just a few years ago he was nominated by President Joe Biden to serve as a Member for the National Council on the Arts. \nOne strong thread that runs through much of Shimabukuro’s work is that of collaboration. From the Trio album to Jake & Friends to Grateful and beyond\, Shimabukuro thrives in the ability to feed off and inspire his fellow musicians. For his brand-new project Blues Experience\, Shimabukuro joins forces with his friend\, drumming legend and founding member of Fleetwood Mac\, Mick Fleetwood\, to create a fresh new take on the Blues. “I’ve always wanted to do a Blues album and when Mick and I started talking about working together\, I thought who better to work with than Mick Fleetwood?” The result is something exhilarating and unique\, as these two titans of their instruments reinterpret some of the greatest songs written by some of their favorite songwriters in a Blues setting. \nIt’s a union whose roots go back to the late 1990s when a young Shimabukuro met and played with Fleetwood at the Hawaiian Music Awards ceremony along with singer songwriter Kenny Loggins. It wasn’t until a few years ago\, that the two were reconnected by a mutual friend at a Fleetwood Mac reunion concert in Nashville. That night\, the seeds of the collaboration were planted at Fleetwood’s suggestion. Not long thereafter the two convened along with Jake’s touring bassist Jackson Waldhoff and keyboard player Michael Grande to start work on a new studio album in Maui. Mark Johnstone from The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band plays keys on two songs\, “Need Your Love So Bad\,” and “Rockin’ In The Free World.”

SUMMARY:NY Tea Ceremony "Savoring Matcha and Incense"
DESCRIPTION:Experience Kōshomō\, a rare chanoyu incense ritual\, followed by matcha in a quiet Obon gathering honoring memory\, season\, and stillness. \nThe world of chanoyu is filled with quiet pleasures: the beauty of seasonal flowers\, the fragrance of incense\, and a bowl of matcha shared together. \nAugust is the season of Obon in Japan—a time to remember and honor those who came before us. As incense has long been associated with prayer\, remembrance\, and reflection\, this gathering will feature a traditional chanoyu ritual called Kōshomō 香所望. \nIn Kōshomō\, incense prepared by the first guest is passed among the participants\, allowing everyone to appreciate its fragrance together. We will experience two different types of incense\, each with its own distinctive character. \nAs the fragrance gently fills the tearoom and quiets the mind\, the bowl of matcha that follows may feel even more vivid and meaningful. \nPlease join us for an intimate seasonal gathering of incense\, matcha\, and quiet reflection. \nDate: August 22\, 2026\n2 Times: 10:30am to 12:30pm or 2:30pm to 4:30pm\nLocation: Globus Washitsu\, 889 Broadway PHC\, New York\, NY 10003 \nDetail of this tea ritual \n1.
