SUMMARY:Film: Moonglow
DESCRIPTION:Asia Society presents “Desire & Solitude: The Cinema of Isabel Sandoval”\, featuring Sandoval’s latest film alongside two that inspired it and her three previous features.  \nPreceded by the short film Shangri-La (2021). \nMoonglow \nIsabel Sandoval\, Philippines/Taiwan/Japan/USA\, 2026\, 107 min.    \nIn English and Tagalog with English subtitles. \nFollowed by a Q&A with Isabel Sandoval moderated by film critic and programmer David Schwartz. \nSandoval’s latest feature is a sterling representation of the dramatic themes and tendencies that have animated her work until now. The filmmaker stars in a noirish moral tale set in 1979 Manila. She plays Dahlia\, a corrupt police chief’s right-hand woman; her decision to betray him\, in an attempt to help victims of his wrongdoing\, has deadly consequences. With luxurious colors\, camerawork and period design— Sandoval cites Melville and Ophuls as inspiration and will introduce screenings of their films as part of this series— Moonglow marks a milestone in a major filmography. \nA limited amount of complimentary tickets will be available to NYC college students with ID at the box office on the day of the screening.

SUMMARY:Film: Lingua Franca
DESCRIPTION:Asia Society presents “Desire & Solitude: The Cinema of Isabel Sandoval”\, featuring Sandoval’s latest film alongside two that inspired it and her three previous features.  \nLingua Franca \nIsabel Sandoval\, Philippines/USA\, 2026\, 95 min.   \nIn English\, Russian and Tagalog with English subtitles. \nFollowed by a Q&A with Isabel Sandoval moderated by film critic Genevieve Yue.  \nIn her only feature to date made in the USA\, Sandoval stars as Olivia\, an undocumented trans Filipina woman living in Brooklyn and working as a caregiver. Shortly after her latest attempt at a greencard marriage falls through\, she meets Alex (Eamon Farren)\, grandson of the woman she cares for\, and the pair hit it off. Deepening Sandoval’s concern with the way large political currents seep into the intimacies of everyday life\, Lingua Franca is one of the most trenchant onscreen depictions of the anxieties aroused by American immigration policies. \nA limited amount of complimentary tickets will be available to NYC college students with ID at the box office on the day of the screening.

SUMMARY:Chinatown Nights: Music\, Food\, Arts\, and Great Vibes
DESCRIPTION:The Chinatown Night Market team is back! This year as Chinatown Nights*.\nFriday\, June 26 & Friday July 10\, 2026\nThink!Chinatown’s summer series of food\, art & music at the iconic gateway of the Manhattan Bridge. This open-air cultural festival features Chinatown-focused programming alongside local art & food vendors.  Expect musical performances\, folk artisans\, Asian American artists\, Chinatown shops\, food\, and great neighborhood vibes. \nLast summer\, we thought it was our last. Then we heard the outpour of love from our community and from our vendors. Despite dealing with all these challenges\, we realized that we too would be sad without this summer event in Chinatown. \nSo\, we’re back…with some changes to make it possible for us to continue this tradition. The Chinatown Night Market team returns June 26 & July 10 to Forsyth Plaza\, this year as Chinatown Nights*. Expect musical performances\, folk artisans\, Asian American artists\, Chinatown shops\, food\, and great neighborhood vibes. \nSee you there. \n*Chinatown Nights is a throw back to how it all started in 2021 as a pandemic response to gather community outdoors and to give local Chinatown artisans and shops an opportunity to vend. Since then this summer festival has grown and evolved into the Chinatown Night Market and now will transition back to Chinatown Nights centering arts and culture.

DESCRIPTION:An intimate Asian comedy night in NYC by Humor Section\n\n\n\n\nJEST ASIANS: Lab Edition is the small-room\, experimental sister show of JEST ASIANS — All-Pro Asian Comedy Showcase\, first co-presented by Humor Section and Asia Society New York. \nWhile the Asia Society edition brought a polished lineup of top Asian comedians to one of NYC’s leading cultural institutions\, the Lab Edition creates a more intimate and playful space at PARTEA LAB — a room for fresh jokes\, new ideas\, and close-up audience energy. But “experimental” does not mean random: every show is still carefully curated\, featuring comedians with strong voices\, real credits\, and material worth developing. \n\n\nThe show is produced by Humor Section\, a comedy brand founded in Beijing in 2013 and now based in New York. As one of the early forces in China’s stand-up comedy scene\, Humor Section helped build a platform for a new generation of comedians\, and now continues its mission in the U.S.: advancing Asian comedians on the global stage. \n\n\n\n\n\nLineup to be updated: \nTony Chou (Host & Producer) \nTony Chou is one of the very few native Chinese comedians touring the world performing stand-up in English. Based in New York\, he has performed across the U.S.\, China\, the U.K.\, Australia\, and Southeast Asia. He is the co-founder of The Humor Section\, a comedy platform launched in Beijing by Des Bishop in 2013\, and previously co-hosted the hit late-night show The Vicious Liang Huan Show. His work has been featured by major media including the BBC\, CNN\, The Atlantic and more. \n  \nPast JEST ASIANS — All-Pro Asian Comedy Showcase at Asia Society New York

SUMMARY:Solidarity As Medicine: Asian & Black Communities Healing Together
DESCRIPTION:Community conversation about working with\, not against\, cultural difference.\n\n\n\nIn a time of rising harm\, division\, and distress\, BEAM and the Asian Mental Health Collective are coming together to hold space for a long-overdue talk: cross-cultural solidarity centered in healing justice. \nThis community conversation invites us to move beyond individual and racially siloed healing into the practice of collective care that transcends\, but still authentically honors\, ethnicity. We will acknowledge and draw from the powerful history of Black\, Asian\, and Indigenous folk (alongside other communities of color and allies) coming together across difference\, address the very real divisions being weaponized against us\, and explore what it looks like to continue to build sustainable ecosystems of care together. \nThis session is for those wanting to close the racial chasms and for anyone who believes that our liberation is interconnected. If you are ready to deepen relationships across cultures\, join us. \nAbout the Guest Speaker \nAyesha Meer (she/her) With over a decade of experience in nonprofit and public management\, Ayesha has grown Asian Mental Health Collective into the leading organization addressing mental health in Asian communities. Ayesha’s own journey to find mental health support\, as an Indian South African immigrant to the US\, led her to join Asian Mental Health Collective as Executive Director in 2023 and to work to create a mental health system that is by and for pan-Asian communities in the US. \nPrior to joining AMHC Ayesha served as Executive Director for Artemis House—a domestic and sexual violence shelter and response organization in Western South Dakota. Ayesha has a particular interest in ending shame around capitalist ideas of productivity. She holds an MPA in Public and Nonprofit management from New York University\, which was funded by a Fulbright grant. \n  \n*** \nAccessibility Statement: ASL services are available\, as well as closed captioning. It is not just a show — it is a movement. A monthly showcase in the heart of Midtown Manhattan\, steps away from Times Square\, designed for audiences who crave bold storytelling\, sharp perspective\, and the raw energy of international voices. \nThe show reflects the momentum of global comedians who have changed the landscape of comedy — Hasan Minhaj\, Andrew Schulz\, Nimesh Patel\, Ali Wong\, Russell Peters\, Vir Das\, Hari Kondabolu\, Zarna Garg\, Jimmy O. Yang\, Aparna Nancherla\, Aakash Singh\, and more. Comedy fans search phrases like “shows like Hasan Minhaj\,” “brown comedy in NYC\,” or “stand-up comedy similar to Russell Peters\,” and Laughing Lassi appears because the DNA of the show is exactly that — smart\, multicultural storytelling rooted in immigrant experience and identity. \nWhy Laughing Lassi Matters\nMost comedy lineups in Manhattan look the same: similar voices\, similar perspectives\, similar punchlines. \nLaughing Lassi is different. \nAt Laughing Lassi\, comedians talk about: \n\nImmigrant parents who negotiate everything\nMarrying outside your culture\nConfusing dating rules in America\nBeing brown in corporate America\nNavigating two identities at once — “American enough” but also “brown enough”\n\nFrom Bollywood jokes to crowd work about spicy food to diaspora humor that hits at your soul\, these comedians deliver observational humor\, storytelling comedy\, dark humor\, and clean comedy depending on the night. \nMany audience members discover Laughing Lassi while searching: \n\ncomedy near me\nNYC date night ideas\nunique NYC experiences\ncomedy shows tonight NYC\nthings to do in NYC this weekend\nfun things to do in Manhattan\nbest nightlife in NYC\n\nOthers find it while specifically looking for a: \n\nsouth asian standup comedy show\nindian standup comedy show in new york city\npakistani standup comedy show\nbangladeshi standup comedy show\ndesi standup comedy show in new york city\nsouth asian standup comedy show in new jersey\n\nOr when searching generic NYC entertainment terms: \n\nstandup comedy show\ncomedy show\nstandup comedy show new york city\nlive standup comedy show in new york city\ncheap comedy tickets new york\nbest comedy show in manhattan\nbest standup comedy show in new york city\n\nLaughing Lassi ranks because it is genuinely what people are searching for. \nNYC Is Ready for This Comedy Era\nNew York City has always been the proving ground of comedy. Every great comedian hustles through Comedy Cellar\, Comedy Cellar NYC\, Comedy Cellar New York\, Gotham Comedy Club\, and eventually dreams of performing at iconic venues like Radio City Music Hall\, just like the tours of Hasan Minhaj’s The King’s Jester and Act Your Age. \nBut Laughing Lassi fills a gap that no traditional comedy club was addressing. \nFor the first time in NYC: \n\nBrown people are not just the audience.\nBrown comedians are the headliners.\n\nThe laughter in that room hits differently\, because finally the stories being told onstage reflect the people sitting in the crowd. \nMore Than a Show: It’s a Cultural Touchpoint\nLaughing Lassi is not just entertainment — it is a cultural gathering. \nAudience members describe it as: \n\n“brown community therapy”\n“brown TED Talk\, but funnier”\n“Bollywood meets Andrew Schulz crowd work”\n“Hasan Minhaj energy with Russell Peters nostalgia”\n\nSouth Asian humor blends seamlessly with NYC nightlife\, making the show a go-to destination for: \n\nfriend groups looking for something new\,\ncouples searching for date night ideas NYC\,\nsolo newcomers searching comedy near me\,\ntourists exploring things to do in New York City\,\nbrown singles hoping to meet other South Asians.\n\nLaughing Lassi regularly draws diverse crowds from: \n\nManhattan\nWest Village\nBrooklyn\nQueens\nNew Jersey\nLong Island\n\nThis show is becoming the official South Asian culture event NYC didn’t know it needed. \nA Community That Represents Millions\nLaughing Lassi is the only show where an audience member can shout: \n\n“Say something in Bengali!” \n\n…and three comics on the lineup actually can. \nIt is the only show where: \n\nA Pakistani comedian roasts a Bangladeshi guy sitting in the front row\,\nAn Indian comic compares aunties to CIA interrogators\,\nA Filipino American jokes about being mistaken for South Asian\,\nA Korean American explains why brown parents and Korean parents are the same — just different spices.\n\nLaughing Lassi is a multicultural comedy night with global flavor. \nWhat Makes Laughing Lassi SEO-Powerful\nBecause it includes phrases people actively search: \n\ncomedy cellar nyc\ncomedy shows nyc\ncomedy club nyc\ncomedy club new york\nnyc comedy club\nbest comedy show in west village\nsouth asian comedy nyc\ndesi standup comedy show new york city\nindian comedians nyc\npakistani comedy show nyc\nbangladeshi comedy show new york\n\n…and NYC tourism search terms: \n\nlive comedy near times square\nlast minute tickets NYC\ngroup activities NYC\nweekend events NYC\n\nLaughing Lassi naturally ranks. \nSearch engines see Laughing Lassi associated with high-value keywords like: \n\ncrowd work comedy\nstorytelling comedy\nimmigrant humor\ndiaspora jokes\nmulticultural comedy\n\nThis helps Google\, Instagram\, YouTube\, TikTok\, and Eventbrite connect Laughing Lassi with searches for “shows like Hasan Minhaj” or “brown comedy NYC.” \nLaughing Lassi is the Future of Comedy\nLaughing Lassi is becoming the cultural home for the next generation of comedians — the ones who will headline Netflix specials\, late-night shows\, and eventually sell out Radio City Music Hall. \nBecause the future of comedy is not one voice. \nIt’s many. \nAnd they’re all on this stage. \nCall to Action:\nFollow the journey on Instagram: @LaughingLassiCome see the show that everyone is talking about — the one critics and audiences call: \n\n“The best standup comedy show in Manhattan.” \n\n\n“The funniest Desi comedy show in New York City.” \n\n\n“If Hasan Minhaj and Russell Peters had a baby — it would be Laughing Lassi.” \n\nTickets sell out fast.Seats are limited. And every month is a completely new lineup.

DESCRIPTION:Allies welcome. An ancient folk dance (Garba) meets House (‘Ghar’) Techno & Disco. For those wanting more than just ‘pride as usual.’\n\n\nGHAR/BA \nGhar. The Gujarati word for house. \nGarba. An ancient folk dance from Gujarat\, danced in ancient circles to honor the divine feminine\, the generative force at the center of all things. Generated by the circle itself. \nWHAT TO EXPECT \n2 hours of guided movement and open floor. \nPart 1 — Dandiya warm-up and Garba drills. \nBreak \nPart 2 — Garba combinations moving into open Garba. The circle takes over. \nDandiyas provided. Snacks and hydration included. \nWHO THIS IS FOR \nLGBTQ folks + allies. Those wanting more than just pride as usual. People ready to be fully in the room. Prior Garba experience is not required — but willingness to sweat\, to follow\, to surrender self-consciousness\, and to give yourself to the collective intention of the space is key. \nDRESS CODE — strictly observed \nBreathable\, loose or flowy athletic wear\, streetwear\, or Indian/Garba dancewear. \nColor palette: solid/blocked- black\, white\, navy/royal\, gold/silver \nSneakers allowed \nNo metal or glass ornamentation — you will be moving in close proximity to others. \nNote: This event will be photographed and filmed for documentation and social media. SUMMARY:Chinatown Nights
DESCRIPTION:The Chinatown Night Market team is back! This year as Chinatown Nights*.\nFriday\, June 26 & Friday July 10\, 2026\nLast summer\, we thought it was our last. Site conditions on Forsyth Plaza (broken street lights\, human excrement\, discarded needles\, unhoused settlements) became increasingly challenging. Permitting and red tape from various City agencies added barriers and costs at every turn. Corporate sponsorship ended. It was too overwhelming for us to even think about taking it on again. \nThen we heard the outpour of love from our community and from our vendors.
