In this engaging “fireside” chat\, Professor Muller is joined by counsel on the brief\, John Nakahata and Rachel Grossman\, and by Larry Oda\, whose family history bears witness to the enduring promise of the Fourteenth Amendment\, that All persons born or naturalized in the United States\, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof\, are citizens of the United States. \nTogether\, the panel will unpack the brief’s key legal arguments and historical context. Professor Muller will discuss how he developed the arguments and evidence for the brief\, citing historical examples from the World War II Japanese American incarceration experience when the U.S. government consistently and unquestionably recognized children born on American soil as citizens\, regardless of their parents’ perceived allegiance or domicile.
