SUMMARY:Broadway: Maybe Happy Ending
DESCRIPTION:Emmy® and Golden Globe Award® winner Darren Criss (Little Shop of Horrors) returns to Broadway alongside Helen J Shen in the new romantic musical comedy MAYBE HAPPY ENDING.  A New York Times Critics’ Pick \nInside a one-room apartment on the outskirts of Seoul\, Oliver lives a happily quiet life\, listening to jazz records and caring for his favorite plant. SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: Avani Patel: Connection
DESCRIPTION:Connection is a solo exhibition by Avani Patel\, presented at Evercore’s New York City offices. \nExcerpt from Patel’s artist statement: \n“Art has been an integral part of my life since I was young. I used to go to the theater with my sister for her rehearsals and dance shows. Seeing the colorful costumes\, flowing dresses and festivity of these moments made me feel joyful; I felt as though the colors were speaking to me…I often draw and paint things that I see in my everyday surroundings\, personal experiences\, and memories. I use mark-making and repetition as tools to signify change in nature\, the passage of time\, and the retention and rejection of memory. My work often takes the form of visual studies and drawings that I work on for months as a time. This process helps me understand colors and patterns\, which then allows me to transfer my ideas to large-scale paintings and public projects.” \nFor inquiries\, please email info@cueartfoundation.org.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibit: We Are Chinatown: By Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya
DESCRIPTION:Created by artist Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya during her civic practice residency with Poster House\, in partnership with Welcome to Chinatown\, and presented by Pearl River Mart\, “We Are Chinatown: A Portrait Of Our Community Rising Through Labor And Love” is an intimate offering that presents a rich and multifaceted portrait of a neighborhood continuously evolving while deeply rooted in its history and cultural heritage. At the heart of the show is a large\, dynamic tapestry — a cascading collage of images\, memories\, poetry\, and threads that stretch across the gallery space\, symbolizing the interconnectedness of Chinatown’s past\, present\, and future. Complementing this work are sculptures\, each a reflection of the neighborhood’s textures\, objects\, and symbols. Reminders of the everyday resilience that sustains Chinatown. \nThis body of work also features a public art campaign of intergenerational portraits\, capturing the diverse faces of the community that will appear around the neighborhood. These portraits were created through intimate conversations with residents in their homes\, restaurants\, and shops\, preserving their personal histories and offering a window into the neighborhood’s enduring vitality. The portraits transcend individual likenesses\, instead capturing the shared experiences\, aspirations\, and challenges that define Chinatown as a living\, breathing space. \n“Amanda’s public work moved me at the darkest times during the pandemic\,” says Pearl River Mart President Joanne Kwong. “I was driving around the city for hours\, making deliveries for online orders\, checking on employees\, and donating PPE to hospitals. Seeing her bold and colorful work around the city gave me strength and a jolt of happiness and purpose\, and for that I am so thankful. “Now to be able to exhibit her work in our gallery is a privilege and an honor. Amanda is outspoken and daring as an artist. And this show\, though a bittersweet reminder of that difficult time\, is also joyous and hopeful in its celebration of the resilience of Chinatown.”

SUMMARY:Unlocking Korea’s Tech Potential – Strengthening U.S. Investment and Innovation
DESCRIPTION:Korea’s thriving tech industry—driven by global brands and cutting-edge innovation—continues to attract substantial foreign investment\, even as the regulatory landscape evolves. Korea’s recent proposed online platform regulations have drawn significant attention for its impacts on major tech companies and the broader competitive landscape in the country’s technologically advanced market. \nTo tackle these developments and their implications for US-Korea’s tech investment relations\, this program will convene a panel with experts across both U.S. and Korean tech industries that will share their valuable firsthand insights and perspectives on critical matters such as key factors and challenges of investing within Korea’s regulatory framework\, as well as policy measures and incentives that could further strengthen Korea’s strengths as a premier destination for U.S. investment.

SUMMARY:Book Launch: Boat Baby by Vicky Nguyen with Hoda Kotb
DESCRIPTION:In a memoir where heroism meets humor\, NBC News anchor and correspondent Vicky Nguyen tells the story of her family’s daring escape from communist Vietnam and her unlikely journey from refugee to reporter with laughter and fierce love. \nStarting in 1975\, Vietnam’s “boat people”—desperate families seeking freedom—fled the Communist government and violence in their country any way they could\, usually by boat across the South China Sea. Vicky Nguyen and her family were among them. Attacked at sea by pirates before reaching a refugee camp in Malaysia\, Vicky’s family survived on rations and waited months until they were sponsored to go to America. \nBut deciding to leave and start a new life in a new country is half the story…figuring out how to be American is the other. Boat Baby is Vicky’s memoir of growing up in America with unconventional Vietnamese parents who didn’t always know how to bridge the cultural gaps. It’s a childhood filled with misadventures and misunderstandings\, from almost stabbing the neighborhood racist with a butter knife to getting caught stealing Cosmo in the hope of learning Do You Really Think You Know Everything About Sex? \nVicky’s parents approached life with the attitude\, “Why not us?” In the face of prejudice\, they taught her to be gritty and resilient\, skills Vicky used as she combatted stereotyping throughout her career\, fending off the question “Aren’t you Connie Chung?” to become a leading Asian American journalist on television. She delivers a uniquely transparent account of her life\, revealing how she negotiated her salary in a competitive industry\, the challenges of starting a family\, and the struggle to be a dutiful daughter. \nFunny\, nostalgic\, and poignant\, Boat Baby is a testament to the messy glue that bonds a family. In the tradition of We Are Dreamers by Simu Liu and Dear Girls by Ali Wong\, Vicky Nguyen offers an optimistic story full of heart that illuminates the promise of what America can be.
